Dish position has more impact on signal quality than almost anything else. Here’s what professional installers in Gauteng look for.
Clear line of sight to the satellite
DStv uses geostationary satellites â your dish must have an unobstructed view of the north-eastern sky. Trees that grow into the line of sight are one of the most common causes of pixelating signal a year or two after install.
Solid mounting surface
Face-brick walls and reinforced concrete are ideal. Plaster-only walls require longer fixings and bigger washers to stay rock-steady in strong winds.
Cable run distance
The shorter the coax run, the stronger the signal at the decoder. For very long runs, an in-line amplifier may be needed.
Safety first
Roof and double-storey mounts should always be installed by professionals using proper fall protection â not a leaning ladder.
